Carly’s Story
Carly (Davis) Brown is a natural horsemanship trainer who believes balance is key. Balance is necessary in every aspect of life, including that of your relationship with your horse. She promotes balance between groundwork and time in the saddle, trail riding and arena work, sensitizing and desensitizing, pressure and release, speed and rest, play and work.
Carly has been riding horses since 1991 and training professionally since 2001. She officially began her own training and riding lesson business, called Balance In Training, in 2009. She was a member of a drill team and trick riding performance organization for 7 years and loves working on cattle ranches. She graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business and Equine Science. In addition to studying the work of several different contemporary equine trainers and horsemen, she studied for a year under national clinician Ken McNabb on the Diamond company’s Powderhorn ranch in Wyoming. Her specialty is problem solving and her favorite thing to do is work with you and your equine partner together to isolate issues and show you how to keep the problems from returning. She also does colt starting - developing your horse into a well-balanced and useful animal with a strong foundation. In addition, she trains in western arena work, trail riding, gymkhana events, and basic roping. She is willing to put on demonstrations and clinics off-site at your facility. Carly is thankful to her parents for their support and the use of their facility, Las Piedras Ranch. She and her parents work hard together to represent a family-friendly environment. She also thanks God every day for her skills and the opportunity to live and breathe a lifestyle she is passionate about.
Carly also enjoys teaching riding to people of all ages and ability levels. You can bring your own horse for a lesson at Las Piedras Ranch in Golden, but if you don’t own a horse you are welcome to ride one of Carly’s many lesson horses. She has owned these horses for multiple years, so they are assuredly safe and as predictable as a horse can be. The horses themselves are for a variety of ability levels, so there is room to grow as a rider. Akin to her training program, Carly tries to formulate lessons towards what you most want to learn.
Carly will work hard to meet your needs and expectations of a horse trainer and riding lesson instructor. She is focused on developing your horse into a well-rounded, safe, and enjoyable partner to your satisfaction and your equitation skills in whichever riding discipline you wish to pursue, whether that’s going down the trail or fine control of your horse in an arena. With a variety of offerings to choose from, she is sure she will be able to meet and balance the personal needs of you and your horse. As a result, a high percentage of her business is from repeat customers and referrals. She would welcome the opportunity to earn your trust as your trainer and teacher to deliver you the best service in the equine industry.
Carly is also an artist! She specializes in pencil drawings of ranch life. Talk to her if you want to order a custom drawing of your horse!
